In the area of retouching, I believe that the final image should not have been retouched to the degree that the person does not look in person as they do in the submitted photograph. Yes, soften lines, but do not eliminate them. Whiten the whites of the eyes slightly, yes. Whiten teeth if need be. Certainly de-emphasize areas that are distracting.
Clothing: avoid tops with dots, stripes and multiple colors. Different necklines are good. Varied hair styles, yes.
There seems to be a tendency recently from the agents who are handling actors for dramatic roles to want the images to look like they are "filmic." By that I believe they are suggesting that the images should look like they are from a TV show or film -- more serious and/or involved with an emotional or dramatic moment.
